What should I expect from my first appointment?
Please arrive on time to fill out intake documentation so that filling out paperwork does not cut into your time with your therapist. You can print the intake forms off this website, and fill it out beforehand and bring to your first session. Please bring your insurance card, picture identification, and names and contact information of professionals or family members you would like to participate in treatment planning. You are in control of the information that is shared with all people you decide to add to the treatment team.  Some people would rather not include other's in treatment planning, that is fine too.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How much does therapy cost?
Some people pay for services out of pocket, some utilize Employee Assistance Program Benefits, others may use health insurance. It is important that we discuss your preference prior to your appointment. If you are unsure of your co-pay or deductible, please contact your insurance provider. The number is on the back of the insurance card. Payment is due prior to the session beginning.  As a courtesy, at this time, this office will bill your insurance directly.  It is essential that you honestly address your deductible or copay during the session, and be prepared to pay it in full.  If you are a Medicaid beneficiary, there is typically no copay nor deductible for office visits.

Do you accept out of pocket payments?
Yes, I do. There are several important benefits to paying out of pocket. The main one is that there will be no third party (insurance) knowledge of your diagnosis nor appointment scheduling, which is important for confidentiality.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How long are therapy sessions?
Your first session will take between 1.5-2 hours, as we begin the process of treatment planning.  Weekly sessions are typically 45-60+ minutes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How often will I attend therapy sessions?
Typically 4 times per month-1 weekly session. We will collaborate on a scheduling that best suits your needs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If my child is in therapy, do I have to attend too?
One parent should be available to wait for your child, or to participate in the session, as needed. It is important to keep in mind that most of us, especially children learn behaviors based on reward. Although there are no perfect parents, in a course of a day, parents may unwittingly reward inappropriate child behavior. Within sessions parents can gain insight into patterns they may not be aware of.  As parents expect their children to change as a result of therapy, parents are expected to engage in family therapy, as needed, to learn how to support and maintain their child's/children's positive changes. Change takes courage, and is difficult, especially in the beginning. Parents practicing new strategies between sessions, role modeling ideal behavior, taking new skills seriously- without making counterproductive comments that can undermine child's progress, being willing to take responsibility for their own behaviors, and are open to exploring psychological and/or psychiatric evaluation (medication as a last resort for children who have historically been resistant to treatment and show impairment in functioning in all environments), will witness positive change.

Can you provide a mental health evaluation for court purposes?
I am unable to provide this service.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you prescribe medications or provide psychological evaluations?
I do not provide these services. I am able to provide you with a referral to a community partner, however, you should verify that referrals accept your insurance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do I need to bring with me on my first appointment?
Please bring your insurance card, list of prescriptions and dose, name of other professional providers that support you, and their contact information. No information will be shared without your permission but it can be helpful for assistance in coordination of care, so that you may experience seamless services among the professional supports in your life.

What are your office hours? Do you do weekend appointments? What if I have to cancel?
I schedule by appointment at times that are mutually agreeable. I maintain Saturday and evening appointments by appointment, to support busy families. Please note,  I have a 24 hour cancellation/reshcedule policy. You are responsible for 50% payment of the contracted amount of your bill if you cancel within 24 hours. This amount is not covered by insurance. Three cancellations may lead to discharge at this Therapist's discretion.
